Installation Questions/Answers

1. I've download the file, now what?

The Webster's New World Mobile Dictionary comes in two versions: the Windows Installer version (wnw-full.exe), and the Zip file version (wnw-full.zip).

To install the Windows Installer version, simply run the wnw-full.exe program on your PC and following the on-line instructions.

For the Zip file version, the file that you downloaded is a multi-file archive that must be unpacked before you can install the software. See Handango's Zip Help page for more information. Once you have extracted the contents of the .zip file, double click on the README file for installation instructions.

2. What does 'Installation Files Missing' error mean?

This error appears if the wnw.pdb file is not installed. If you are using the Windows installation program, then try running it again. If you are installing from the .zip file, then use the QuickInstall Tool to add wnw.pdb in the files directory to the install list, and then perform a HotSync. NOTE: Make sure you have the right file because there is also a file called wnw.prc.

3. Why do I get the 'Cannot open dictionary database' error?

This error appears if the dictionary database was not installed properly. If you are using the Windows installation program, then try running it again. If you are installing from the .zip file, then you need to select one of the dictionary sizes (college, desk,or compact), and install all three files in the corresponding directory. Use the QuickInstall Tool to add these files to the install list, and then perform a HotSync.

1. Where do I enter my registration code?

The full version of Webster's will normally ask for your registration code as soon as you start the program. If you do not see this page then you do not have the full version OR the full version is installed, but program still sees the previously installed trial version. If you have installed the full version, but do not see the registration page and only have words that begin with A, then you need to delete the old trial version files. To do that, select Delete from the App menu of your Palm's main screen and delete the following files: Websters-dd, Websters-id, and Websters-ed.

2. Why is my registration code invalid?

The registration code must match your HotSync ID. You entered this information when purchased the software. If your code is invalid that you may have entered the wrong information, or did not enter the exact case of the letters. To get a new code, send e-mail to with your HotSync ID and be sure to enter the exact case of all letters.

3. How do I find my HotSync ID?

4. Why can I only view the A's even though I have the full version?

If you have installed the full version, but do not see the registration page and only have words that begin with A, then you need to delete the old trial version files. To do that, select Delete from the App menu of your Palm's main screen and delete the following files (near the bottom of the list): Websters-dd, Websters-id, and Websters-ed.
